Quarantine.. and quaran-tiny Art!!!

staying in.jpeg

While this virus is spreading around, we decided at the studio to play it safe and work from home to protect us and our loved ones. It’s been a hard adjustment.. but if we all do it will go away soon! So keeping it positive! After all… working from home is not that awful!

Workinfromhome_blips03.jpeg

And while it’s been an adjustment, for sure!!! We also decided to keep being creative: comfortable and “semi-operational” work-from-home-station, lots of tea and coffee, adjusting to a new work flow.. and well staying creative on social media! We started an initiative on our Instagram: #quarantips where our #creativeblips
give some tips to stay sane and creative! The idea is promote a fun dialog with our followers and make everybody feel “we are together on this!”.

But with the ones we resonate the most are with the kids…! The ones who we rite our stories for. Can’t imagine what is it to be little, not really understanding and feeling trapped. So we thought.. we had to do something about it!!! And here is how our #QuaranTinyArt started!!! We decided to create little pieces of lifework-art for the “little-and not so little- ones in the house” and immediately our Pirateers (of course!) sparked that initiative! So from now on, till we are back to the office we will post line-art-activities free to print for anybody that needs to brighten up their day.. or just to be entertained!

Pirateers_Crossword_Puzzle.jpeg

This Pirateers Crossword puzzle, to dress-me up color-me activities are just a sneak peak of the fun activities we are preparing at the studio to help stem your boredom!!!

We created a very handy Linktree where you both download these activities now and start coloring, but also see additional pages as we‘ll be updating weekly! Make sure you click on the first tab!

Hope you like it!! And please if you know people with little ones… let them know about it!!!! Stay creative and busy!!

High School Lectures!!

So happy we have been part of the Art Lectures provided by nonprofit Light Bringer Project through Locavore Literary LA. It’s always very refreshing to visit the next generation of artists and be able to share our journey with them! Thanks for listening, and for all those awesome questions!! Katia had a blast visiting Fairfax High School and Pasadena High School, and we can’t wait to see what they do with their art!!

Something different feels like a fresh breeze of air!

Finally, it’s out and published a small piece Katia worked for “Literature for Life”. The assignment consisted on illustrating a short fictional story from Vivian McInerny.

Katia: “ I really loved the dark and decadent tone of the piece and talked about a topic that is very relevant and close to my heart: Emotional Orphans and Unappealing Children. The text is been given in several highschool classes to read as a discussion topic and I am very happy and proud to be able to help on such a matter! As an artist, the ending really appealed to me, I wanted even if it was a hard reality to have a bit of “strange hope” kind of a feeling, so I chose neon-bright colors and I tried to give it a peaceful atmosphere for the privacy of the characters. I hope you like it!”

Comic Barcelona!

logo-37.png

So excited about this 37 Comic Barcelona Festival! Not only because I love comics and it happens in my home city, but also because for the very first time ever I will be part of it! Super thrilled to be sharing some comic knowledge with the little ones at the Comic Kids section, but also to be part of the educational program with the “not so little anymore” future pool of artists! Here at Glow in the Dark, we are all about of giving back to the community, and what a better way for me than sharing some knowledge and tips in Barcelona!

Stay tuned for more news!

Woodbury Animation Panel!

Once more we were very happy to be part of a great industry panel at the Woodbury University, courtesy of their wonderful Animation Club!

Along with Annushka Almendros (APM at WB/ GITD Co-creator), Benson Shum (Disney Animator/Children Book Artist), Melissa Maryn (Toy Designer at Moose), Ryan Hansen (Story board at Dreamworks TV), Heather Gregersen (Story Revisionist at Dreamworks TV), Maureen Macomber (Studio Manager at GITD) and Katia Grifols (Mastermind at GITD) we spent our evening talking about our personal career paths and answering questions of young artists that want to make it into the industry! Was a very refreshing and fun night!

Thank you Woodbury kids for having us!

Volunteering in Vietnam!

Because Art and Stories are around the world there is nothing more inspiring to go find them!

Glow in the Dark was part of an Art initiative program promoted by the Right Hands. The volunteering promoted the Arts as a tool for Little orphan kids to not only use Art as a healing therapy but also as a possible future career for them. To learn a profession that will hopefully help their way out of poverty.

Obviously with a great story like this we had to participate! We create content for kids at the studio, hopefully to give them awesome childhood memories. What a better chance for us to give those memories.. like literally! It was a very inspiring experience, extremely heartwarming and… we got the chance to teach this little future talents a bit of photoshop!

The Right Hands provided them with Digital tablets, digital art programs, and art material for the kids so they can learn with good tools. We also participate in a lot of very inspiring activities like Museum Trips, Arts and Crafts day and even self modeling life drawing!

We will miss this girls a lot and the awesome group of Volunteers! We were soo charmed by Hanoi (Vietnam).

Thanks Right Hands for this awesome experience!

Visual development Worksop at Escola Iboix, Granollers, Spain! 2018

I can’t express how meaningful it was for us to put together a Visual Development Worksop for the students at the Escola Iboix, in Granollers, (Catalunya-Spain). I grew up in a small town very close to Granollers, and I was so excited to teach this kids about Visdev. Growing up we had very little resources and knowledge about the Animation/Entertainment Industry and I feel the little me back in time.. would really had died for an opportunity like this. So I felt it was an honor to give the workshop.

We prepared some exercises, some lectures and the students did an awesome job on their final presentation. We provided a lot of feedback afterwords. Was a very fun experience! We really look forward to keep collaborating and inspiring the students from the Escola Iboix!

Inspiring the Next Generation of artists at the CTN Teens Week!

Very happy to be able to attend to this super cool CTN Teens event organized at the CSG Gallery in Burbank as a part of inspiring and promoting Art as a Career for the next generation of Artists.

We were part of a set of Lectures along with other artists where we shared our experiences and answered Q&A from teenagers attending to a variety of the Burbank High Schools.

Can’t wait to see what they can do!
